Easy Bean Burgers from Pantry Staples

Sharing is caring!

I was craving a burger that fulfilled these 4 requirements:

  • no meat
  • yummy
  • easy
  • use ingredients we already had

Fortunately, these Easy Bean Burgers from pantry staples, meets all of the above requirements.  An additional bonus of this recipe is it received John’s approval too. He explained of the few bean burgers he has tried before, this one was the best. 😊

Vegetarian?

Yes, indeed. Only one animal based ingredient, an egg.

Vegan?

I did ultimately want the recipe to be vegan and tried a version with a chia seed “egg”.  Sadly, the vegan bean burger attempt fell apart in the pan.  I will post a vegan bean burger recipe in the future once I figure out how to keep the burger together.

Gluten free?

To ensure your bean burgers are gluten free, make sure to use gluten free old fashioned rolled oats.

Grillable?

We have not tried grilling these burgers as they are quite sticky and may fall through the grates.

Cooked beans over canned beans?

If you use cooked beans instead of canned beans make sure the cooked beans are well drained as the extra moisture may cause the burgers to fall apart more easily.  If still moist, trying adding a little bit more oatmeal.  One 15 oz of canned beans is about 1.75 cups of cooked beans.

Oatmeal?

Oatmeal gives the burger more of a chewy texture.  I tried the recipe with breadcrumbs initially but I wanted the burger to be less mushy.

These burgers will keep for a few days in the fridge.  Hope you all enjoy these bean burgers as much as we do.
